Art as an echo of explosion – a dialogue with the artist about affect and art

Eero Kangor visits Eva Jacobson’s exhibition Affect
The first visit to Eva Jacobson’s exhibition Affect by the Academy of Arts in Stockholm at Tengbom Gallery evoked a sense of recognition in me. At the heart of the exhibition – as if at centre stage – there are tilted white ‘towers’ and a blue chair. It is the ‘moment before’ – the shift that changed the position of events in the field of the ‘present’. It changes the relationships between all variables and creates new aspects that display reality from a different angle. Thomas Kuhn has called this ‘paradigm shift’ to explain certain changes in thought systems. However, similar emotional ‘occurrences’ take place in our lives all the time, if only we cared to notice them.
