EDITORIAL

(4/2018)

When will the present become history? And how? Are the nineties – the time when Estonia restored its independence and the local art largely became post-modern and progressively international – now finally on their way to the permanent display at our national gallery? What is artistic research and how has it been cultivated at the Estonian Academy of Arts in the past decade? What does it feel like to be a visiting professor in the oldest and largest university in Estonia? Tallinn Print Triennial in its 50th anniversary year – is it too soon to draw any conclusions? And how should we present the living classics of today so everyone is happy?

They say art is larger than life, but that is just one reason to get yourself a copy of KUNST.EE, the art quarterly devoted to various aspects of contemporary art and visual culture in Estonia. All the other reasons are already rather more specific, inviting the reader to delve into an artwork, follow the artist and to critically consider the results.

In this winter issue, questions in the field of art are posed by Indrek Grigor, Raivo Kelomees, Kaire Nurk, Peeter Laurits, Brigita Reinert, Mari-Liis Rebane, Triinu Soikmets, Andri Ksenofontov, Urmas Lüüs, Karolina Ɓabowicz-Dymanus, Oliver Laas and Maris Karjatse. Questions, questions, questions…

Stay tuned!
