Notional sensuality and sensual notionality

Margus Ott (1-2/2010)

Margus Ott explores Raoul Kurvitz’s project FLOW

In the spring of 2010, Raoul Kurvitz had two simultaneous exhibitions at neighbouring galleries. He exhibited paintings at Hobusepea Gallery and drawings at Draakon Gallery. In addition, Kurvitz provided a lecture-performance by reading from several pages of text at the opening. The project created some discomfort among the reviewers, because it left the viewer to question whether Kurvitz acted as an artist or as a philosopher for this project. Indeed, if one does not know the thinkers to whom Raoul Kurvitz referred – Henri Bergson, Gilles Deleuze, Zygmunt Bauman – then there is greater scope for a variety of interpretations.
